Volkswagen

Dublin Core

Description

  • Volkswagen History: Founded on May 28, 1937, Germany started a state  owned car company, however, this was just before the time of WWII, resulting in the Nazi party being in total control over it.

  • Initially called the Gesellschaft zur Vorbereitung des Deutschen Volkswagens mbH, or The Society for the Preparation of the German Volkswagen mbH, the name was shortened to simply Volkswagenwerk (VW), or “The People’s Car Company.”

  • The German Labor front, located in Wolfsburg, had been the original operators of this company. Ferdinand Porsche, the same who had founded the Porsche automobile company,  was directed by Hitler to begin the design of the first car, becoming named the Beetle in 1959 by the advertising agency, Doyle dane Bernbach.

  • This particular car has set a new record in world production at 15 million vehicles, initially set by the Ford Model-T.

  • Once WWII had began, the VW production came to a halt. Due to the connection to the Nazi party, the sale within the United States was significantly smaller than anywhere else.

  • In 1982,  Volkswagen had won it’s first German Formula Three Championship.
