Description

  • The Porsche company was founded by Ferdinand Porsche and his son in 1948.  Before this, however, Porsche senior had designed and engineered a firm for the Volkswagen Beetle in 1931.

  • Porsche jr. had began his work on the their first automobile, the 356,  in 1948. This car was based off of the Beetle engine, however was a rear engine car. This car was deemed to be not only reliable and comfortable, but to have brilliant speed for the time as well.

  • Between their first two years, all 52 cars built were all by hand and within their own garage. Beginning with the 1964 911, the model was given different variations for the next six years, such as the removable roof in the 1966 model, and adding fuel injections to the 1969 model.

  • By 1974, Porsche had created a great accomplishment. They had managed to use galvanized steel, which was guaranteed to prevent rusting for up to six years. Galvanized steel is a zinc coating that protects the main steel of the car from outside elements, making the cars far more long lasting.

  • By 1995, Porsche had decided to discontinue the front engine models. In 1998, Porsche jr. passed away at the age of 88. Porsche has won over 24,000 auto races, over 50 of them being of the Le Mans races.

  • Most of the models designed by Porsche were all based off of the 911, so a majority of the cars consist of a  very oblong design with a sweeping front. The edges of these models are usually always rounded off, keeping a template design to all of the models. the only significant changes seen by each models would be through their headlights or their fenders.
