Description

  • Mercedes History: Beginning in 1886, Germany, as the inventor of the 3-wheeled self propelled “motorwagen,” Carl Banz had created the first automobile in the world.
  • Similar to today’s hybrids, the 1906 cars, busses, and trucks all worked due to battery-electric propulsion, but was abandoned in 1921 for their supercharged engine.
  • This was accomplished with the process of compressing fuel and air together. 1931 was also a major mark in Mercedes history, when they had managed to create a car with 4-wheel independent suspension in their Mercedes 170.
  • Five years later, their diesel passenger car was established.
  • By 1939, Mercedes began to make their cars more safe, beginning to do crash tests in 1958. This helped pave the way for the anti-locking brake system in 1978, along with the 4matic (all wheel drive) E-class sedans in 1985.
  • A decade from the E-class sedans, electronic stability programs have been known as to be the safest thing since the use of the airbag.
  • Mercedes cars have been changing their designs with each decade, so there may be no distinguishing factors of the Mercedes vehicles from another company at certain points in time.
