Description

  • BMW History: In 1916, Bayerische Flugzeugwerke, or BFW, began as an aircraft engine company the German WWI planes.
  • By August 13, 1918, the company allowed for the announcement of their reach of 12 million reichsmarks. Two weeks later, the war ended and their production was put to a halt, no longer permitted to produce aircraft engines.
  • As a result of this, BFW turned to making train breaks and retrofitting engines. Four years later, in 1922, BMW takes up the name, building their first automotive vehicle in 1932.
  • BMW’s motorcycles have set records for over 22 years. They had 20 sports teams, with 19 driver championship titles from between 1954 to 1974.
  • Typically throughout the BMW’s car designs, the bug-like eyes and long length were maintained.
  • Initially, a majority of the cars from around 1930’s to 1961 has rounded fronts that curved upwards to a straight hood. There were virtually no corners to be seen on these cars.
  • From 1961 until around 2000, however, a boxy front was adopted its design.
  • Once the 2000’s came around, there was a massive change in the BMW designs. The cars dropped their tall heights and became a more stout design and took back up it’s curved edges.
